MAIN EVENT TIME
Poliana Botelhovs VS Luana Carolina
Carolina is a solid prospect but hasnt shown any real ground game. And if this is standing than Botelhovs will dominate, if not outright finish Carolina. Not much else to say. I expect this to be pretty one sided.
Poliana Botelhovs -275 (lock)
Cody Staman VS Merab Dvalishvili
Everyone thinks they have good ground game in the 135 division, until they meat Merab. You hear it every fight from his opponents that they plan to stuff the take down and not get manhandled. Its a similiar rhetoric we used to hear when fighters were preparing for Khabib. This fight will be no different than Merab’s last 5 fights. He will maul Staman on the ground. Smothering him, and make life hell. All on his way to a very convincing 30-27 victory. Staman’s best hope is to crack Merab early with a big shot. But I think Merab takes his time, shoots, and Staman never gets back up to his feet.
Merab Dvalishvili -250 (lock)
Sean Strickland VS Krzysztof Jotko
Strickland has been so fun to watch since moving to 185. I love the fact that this fight is in the Apex because you can hear Strickland talk, and thats been half the entertainment level of his recent victories against Brendon Allen and Jack Marshman. His boxing has looked super crisp. And hes yet to be in danger. I expected him to dominate Marshman but the Allen victory was super impressive.
On the flip side Jotko is…..meh. Hes the MMA version of milk toast. But hes the bigger fighter so he would hope that will be an advantage for him. Fact is, if Jotko can get this up against the cage its going to be a pretty boring affair. I dont see that happening. I see Strickland keeping his distance and picking Jotko apart
Sean Strickland -300 (lock)
Ian Cutelaba VS Dustin Jacoby
Ian Cutelaba did it again! He tried really hard to intimidate his opponent. This time it was Dustin Jacoby. It didnt work for him last time when he lost (twice) to Magomed Ankalaev and I dont see it working now. Ian Cutelaba is not exactly a composed fighter. He rushes towards you and tries to get you out of there as fast as possible. It makes him a prime candidate to be countered. Jacoby will counter. He will finish.
Dustin Jacoby +105
Cub Swanson VS Giga Chikadze
Its unfortunate, but its the reality. Cub Swanson has become a gate keeper. Ortega, Moicanao, Burgos, Gracie, and most recently Daniel Pineda. And while Cub ended up pulling out an incredible victory against Daniel Pineda, Pineda was piecing Cub up. Cub was able to weather the storm and grab a finish. But that first round was rough.
Giga has been on a tear of late, and the reason I favor Giga is his kickboxing ability. Pineda showed that you can chew Cubs lead leg up. I expect Giga to follow Pineda’s lead. Chewing cubs leg up while keeping the distance and piecing Cub apart from the outside.
Giga Chikadze -185
Dominick Reyes VS Jiri Prochazka
Jiri Prochazka came into the UFC from RIZN with a whole bunch of hype. And boy did he live up to it by knocking out vet Volkan Oezdemir. But the fight wasnt flawless. Jiri showed a willingness to get hit. He played with fire a little too much. It was painfully noticeable. And I dont expect him to fight Dominick Reyes with his hands down, but you wonder if the fight goes on and he gets fatigued does he revert back to his hands by his side. If he does, than he will be staring at the ceiling
Dominick Reyes took Jon Jones the distance in a fight that many thought he won. He followed it up by looking horrible against now champion Jan Blachowicz. I think that was a one off for Reyes. I think Prochazka is going to have his day in the UFC, but its not today. I think Reyes reminds everyone that hes a top lightweight in the world tonight. Putting on a really impressive performance and getting a finish late.
Dominick Reyes +105 (lock)
