Flyers Remain Undefeated, Beat Lightning 3-2
By: Haley Taylor Simon
The Flyers road trip started out in Tampa Bay tonight as they took on the Lightning; who they’ve struggled against. In the last ten matchups against the two teams the Lightning were undefeated. The last time the Flyers beat the lightning was in the 2017-2018 season. Tonight it looked like the streak was going to continue for Tampa when they went up 2-0 against Philadelphia.
Importantly, the Flyers answered back as Laughton finished off the 2nd period with their first goal of the night giving the Flyers a chance as they only trailed by one going into the 3rd. Early in the 3rd JVR got the puck in the back of the net equalizing the game at 2. It wasn’t until the final half of the 3rd period where N. Cates gave the Flyers their first lead of the night. (3-2). The Flyers battled hard for tonight’s win.

Despite the Flyers being the only team in the NHL last season that didn’t win a game after trailing by two or more goals, they solidified another win being in that tricky situation. In the past two games the Flyers came back to win after being down by two which is a testament to the “Tortorella effect.” Torts has installed a toughness to the team which doesn’t allow for lazy or sloppy play. Evidently, the tougher Torts seems to be on the team the better they perform when time is needed.
The Flyers travel around the sunshine state to Sunrise Flordia, to take on the Panthers. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
