Voracek suffered an upper body and head injury that doesn’t seem to have a resolution. Atkinson with 73 points last season was one of the dynamic playmakers on ice. Atkinson previously was under head coach, John Tortorella, in Columbus.
Tortorella on Atkinson following the announcement, “I have to consider him as one of the leaders from last year’s team.” When asked about why the surgery should happen now, Tortorella said, “he’s made the decision with the doctors that this is the best road to go.”
“Philadelphia Flyers forward Cam Atkinson will undergo neck surgery on Wednesday, Dec. 21. He will be out the remainder of the 2022-23 season and is expected to make a full recovery. The club will have more information following the surgery.”
Unlike Atkinson’s abence; there are still no official updates when Sean Couturier will return to the lineup.
