Flyers 2-1 Loss To Islanders Post All Star Break
By: Haley Taylor Simon
The Philadelphia Flyers enjoyed a week off from hockey, except for Kevin Hayes, who represented the Flyers in All Star week along side the. best mascot in hockey, Gritty. A fun fact about Hayes is that his cousins are the Tkachuk brother; Matthew and Brady. Their father, Keith Tkachuk also played in the NHL as well. Hayes paid tribute to his late brother, Jimmy Hayes, by having his son and Kevin’s nephew Beau with him. Hayes said in regards to his nephew “He’s going to have a trip of a lifetime” which it certainly was for the three-year old All Star. Hayes also stated “all he cares about is me pointing to the sky” after he scores a goal in honor of Jimmy. It’s clear that this week was a special one for then Hayes family and a great opportunity to be along side his cousins on the ice as well.

While the week off from hockey hopefully aloud the team to recuperate, it didn’t go that way as the Flyers lost to the Islanders last night. The orange and black fell behind the Islanders 2-1 it certainly wasn’t a bad game by the Flyers who performed well. The Islanders took had a 2-0 in the middle of the second period, but Deslauriers, was able to cut the lead in half getting his third goal of the season.

“they played better the first period (Islanders) both teams were pretty even the second and third.” John Tortorella said after the game. Tortorella also went into detail of how the Islanders simply played harder and ‘it was a good lesson by us.” Tortorella all season has been very vocal when he’s unhappy with something his teams done; or not done.
The Flyers have a busy week ahead as they host the Oilers Thursday night, the Predators Saturday, and conclude their hosting duties with the Kraken Sunday.
