Adrian Wojnarowski: The Sixers and Nets Havent Talked In 4 Weeks
HARDEN WATCH….DAY 5…..THE MOOD IS TENSE!
But another day, another story! And this time it comes from the preeminent NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarwoski. Right before 7am on Monday morning Woj put out a long winded article regarding the Sixers pursuit of James Harden. This on the heels of Shams Charania story that the Sixers were planning to go after Harden before Thursdays trade deadline.
The cliff notes version is the fact that the only real trade conversations between the Sixers and the Nets took place on January 11th, and it was quick.
“What about James (Harden),” asked Daryl Morey to Nets GM Sean Marks. “No.” was the response.
There was some interesting nuggets in the piece though. Mainly regarding James Harden’s representation….or lack thereof.
“Harden hasnt had an agent in several but he does have a business manager. When Harden wanted out of Houston before the 2020 season, he commissioned agents to work with the Houston Rockets and rival teams to facilate a trade. They played a key role in getting Harden to the Nets, and then the working relationship ended. But once again, sources told ESPN, Harden and his manager have been searching for an agent to partner and navigate the situation. Whether thats free agency, a sign and trade to leave the Nets after the season, staying on a new deal, or even, a trade prior to Thursdays deadline.”
The picture that Woj paints of Harden though, isn’t a GREAT one. Basically, when things are going great hes a model employee. But when things are rocky then hes quick to blame others and not take any responsibility. For a team that has struggled in the post season the past few seasons that could be problematic.
Another hiccup in a potential deal is the fact that both teams think they have leverage in a deal. The Sixers feeling like their in the drivers seat because the Nets look like they might lose Harden for nothing. The Nets however know that in order for the Sixers to sign Harden in the offseason they would have to unload a boatload of players to fit under the salary cap.
This one is likely going to come down to the deadline.
