March Madness isn’t just about College Basketball

HOWIE ROSEMAN HAS US ALL ON PINS AND NEEDLES
We are past the franchise tag designation period and now we all await next Wednesday when free agency begins for the 2023 NFL season. Unlike other years when we were all anticipating Howie delivering a present under the tree, this year we worry about what talent is walking out the door. Could the Eagles really lose a starting Cornerback, Safety and Defensive Tackle in one fell swoop from a team that won the NFC and just fell short in the Super Bowl? It certainly appears that Bradbury, Gardner Johnson and Hargrave are all one foot out of the door already. That certainly stinks, but the Eagles have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds where they could re-stock those shelves. Unfortunately they also could lose depth rotation veterans like Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and linebackers like TJ Edwards. It’s going to be a completely different looking defense even if Howie manages to pull a rabbit out of his hat to bring back a few key players. That’s a scary proposition. The good news? The Eagles already have their own first round pick, 2 second round picks and their own third round pick. If they allow Bradbury, Hargrave and CJGJ to all walk they should add 3 additional third round picks to next years draft haul. It would give Howie monumental flexibility.
THE PHILLIES ARE PREDICTED TO FINISH THIRD ONCE AGAIN
USA Today came out with their MLB Insiders Panel votes and there is good news and bad news. On the good news side, their six insiders project the Phillies to have 92 wins. They also have them finishing third in the NL East and qualifying for the playoffs as the third wildcard. By their projections the Phillies would once again face the Cardinals on the road in the best of 3 series. That would seem a bit disappointing, but they showed last season that all they needed to do was get in.
THE 76ERS ARE DEFINITELY BETTER THAN LAST SEASON
By the end of the month of February the 76ers already had secured their 24th win at home. That is the same amount they won the entire regular season last year. They are also ahead of last years win pace. The 76ers won 51 games last year and already have 43 with 17 games to play. It’s even more impressive when you realize that last year the Eastern Conference was much more difficult to navigate. Last year the Top seed Miami had 53 wins and the 10th seed Charlotte had 43 wins. This year the East may have the top 3 seeds with more wins than Miami had last year. The 76ers once again will boast an impressive road record. This team is certainly battle tested.
