Philly Native Bradley Cooper REALLY Wants An Eagles’ Super Bowl Win

Philly native son, Bradley Cooper recently mentioned that he would rather have an Eagles’ Super Bowl win over winning an Oscar.  The actor, who played an obsessive Eagles fan in Silver Linings Playbook among many other stellar roles, is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for his new film, Maestro. Cooper, who is often seen in a box at Lincoln Financial Field on gamedays, is a devout Birds fan.  And he’s proving it.  The Eagles, thankfully have high hopes for a Super Bowl appearance, if not a win at 10 and 1 right now, that’s the best record in the NFL.

“Poor” Man Leaves His Town Millions

An elderly man in small Hinsdale, New Hampshire town left $3.8 Million to his community after he passed.  That’s not necessarily a strange event.  The strange part is that nobody knew the man had millions.  Geoffrey Holt passed over the summer at 82 years old.  He lived in a mobile home, he wore hand-me-down clothes and did odd jobs for others.  Before his passing, he confided in a neighbor that his mutual fund investments were doing very well and he didn’t know what to do with the money.  The neighbor suggested that he leave the money to the town, not realizing just how much money Holt was talking about. The town is considering using the money for restoration to some buildings and an upgrade to their town hall.

Well, they did it again. Was it pretty? No. Did the Eagles stress all of us out? Yes. For the second straight week, they went into halftime down 17-7. The offense was a mess in the first half. But they somehow found a way to win. Jalen Hurts and the offense turned it on in the second half, scoring 3 TDs, and a late 59-yard FG by Jake Elliott, to eventually force OT. Then after holding the Bills to an FG, Jalen Hurts walked it off with a rushing TD.

This team just finds ways to win. They have yet to play a single game you could say was pretty. But they keep winning anyway. There is something to be said for always stepping up at the end of the game to pull out the win. Would we all love it if they just made it easy on us for once? Sure. But it is hard to complain about 10-1, especially considering they have the toughest schedule of any team in the league to this point. You win ugly enough, and you just get called winners. And the Eagles are winners.

They improved to 10-1.  It puts them at least 2 games ahead of every other team in the NFL and gives them a lot of cushion for the top seed in the NFC. They are 4-0 in the so-called gauntlet of their schedule, with wins over the Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Bills. Up next for them are the Niners, Cowboys, and Seahawks, before they finally get some easier games on their schedule to close out the season.

So how did they do it? How do they keep doing it? What are they doing so well that they continue to win? Let's take a deeper look.

This one is courtesy of Bob Cooney because I didn't even notice. But the Eagles are 10-10 in the Red Zone in their last 3 games. Early in the season Red Zone offense was a big issue for them. But in their 3 toughest games of the season, they were perfect. Not just perfect, but they averaged over 3 TDs a game. And now despite all those early struggles, they are 5th in the league with a Red Zone TD percentage of 62.79%. It feels safe to say those issues are well behind them, and they are back to being an elite team once they get into the Red Zone.

If it feels like Jake Elliott never misses clutch FGs, it is because he doesn't. Elliott has had 8 chances late in games, or in OT, to tie the game or force OT. He has hit all 8 of them. It started with that 61-yard FG against the Giants in 2017. And ever since then, he has been money in every clutch situation. We saw it earlier this year when he hit a walk-off FG in Ot vs the Commanders. We saw it again today when his 59-yard FG in the rain sent the game to OT.

Elliott has a strong case for being the best kicker in Eagles history. Akers was great, but he doesn't have the resume for long FGs like Elliott already does. And if he sticks around, he will have a great chance to reset all the records David Akers once set.

For 3 straight weeks, the Eagles faced one of the top defenses in the league in terms of points allowed. The Cowboys, Chiefs, and Bills all hold opposing offenses under 20 points per game. They scored over 20 on all 3 of them.

In the Bills' case, they were giving up about 17.1 points per game to offenses (leaving out any points scored by the defense or special teams). The Eagles dropped 37 on them, 31 in regulation. No other team has scored 30 on this defense all year long. Just like they became the first team to score at least 21 points on offense against the Chiefs last week. I know we are all a bit annoyed with Brian Johnson. But this offense keeps putting up points on great defenses.

The Eagles keep winning. But another important thing to note is their schedule gets easier every week. They are in the gauntlet of their schedule but haven't lost a single one of these games. Now they have just 3 games left against .500 or above teams and get to close out the season with games against the Giants (twice) and Cardinals.

Their remaining opponents have a combined winning % of .464. Compare that to the three teams they are competing with in the NFC, and it is incredibly favorable. The Cowboys' SOS is at .618, with games against the Seahawks, Eagles, Bills, Dolphins, and Lions still to come. The 49ers is .522, with the Eagles, Seahawks, and Ravens still on the schedule. And the Lions is .515, with two games against the Vikings, and a game with the Cowboys still to come.

The Eagles have played 5 teams that are either .500 or above this season. The Vikings, Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Bills. Their record in those games is 5-0 (1.000). They have the toughest schedule to this point of any team in the NFL, and they are still 10-1. Let's compare that to their opponents in the NFC. The Cowboys are 0-2 vs winning teams. The Lions are 1-2. Though the 49ers are a respectable 4-2. So while the Cowboys and 49ers may have more flashy blowout wins, the Eagles just take care of their business vs good teams.

When the news came down that Lane Johnson was out, everyone feared the worst. Jack Driscoll was terrible in week 6 against the Jets, giving up 8 pressures. But outside of the first play where Floyd beat him inside, Driscoll was actually pretty damn good. He allowed just 1 pressure all game long, and one hurry. For the rest of the game, he was near-perfect in pass blocking. It is a rare win for the eagles without Lane Johnson. The only game they lost this season was the one where Lane Johnson got injured in the first half. But now they are winning even without him? This team may be special.
