Jalen Hurts Walks It Off For an Overtime Win
Never in doubt. A joke we seem to be making about the Eagles a lot this season. The Eagles have 10 wins, and almost all of them have been close and a bit ugly. But like they have in nearly every game this season, they just made the plays when it mattered most. First it was a comeback from down 10 points at halftime. Then it was getting down the field for a late FG to force OT. And then finally, after the Bills had to settle for a FG on their drive in OT, it was Jalen Hurts running into the endzone for the walk-off win.
Much like in the Chiefs game, it was an ugly first half. The Eagles had nothing working on offense outside of their one TD drive. But they kept it within 10 points. And as in that Chiefs game, the offense woke up in the 2nd half. They erased that deficit, and then when the Bills took the lead again, they erased another deficit. By the end, Jalen Hurts had 5 TDs. 3 through the air, and 2 on the ground, including the game-winner.
It puts them at 10-1. At least 2 games ahead of every other team in the NFL. They are 4-0 in what everyone called the gauntlet of their schedule, having beaten the Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs, and now the Bills.
At some point, we are going to have to stop questioning them. It may be ugly at times, but when you continually find ways to beat good teams, it means you are very good. A bad team would not have come back vs the Chiefs, or today against the Bills.
Is some of it luck? Sure. But the 2017 team that won the Super Bowl had a ton of luck. If a ball doesn’t bounce off Keanu Neal right into Torrey Smith’s hands in that Divisional Round game, maybe they dont make it to the Super Bowl at all. Every team gets lucky at times. It’s the good teams that take advantage. And the Eagles continue to take advantage.
It gets no easier for them. Up next is the 49ers, followed by a road trip against the Cowboys and Seahawks. But they have done enough that they have some room for error. Go 2-1 and you will be guaranteed to still have the lead in the NFC. They take care of their business. The Cowboys and Niners may have exciting blowout wins on their resume, but they also each have 3 losses. When things got close, they struggled to pull out wins. But the Eagles keep winning, and are in a great position to be the 1-seed once again.
