Danny Briere Says He Feels Confident On The Philadelphia Flyers Goalies
Danny Briere joined The John Kincade Show Friday morning (6/2). Briere is the new General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers. With the Flyers in an active rebuild, a lot of eyes are on the future of what this team holds.
Goalies
Briere was asked about the basics teams need in order to succeed, and for the Flyers they are in a good position with goalies. With Briere, having two good goalies is a must. “We have a lot of assets though which is exciting. Carter Hart, (Flyers goalie) first of all he’s only 25 years old, which we forget since he’s been around so long. When you look at goalies a lot of the time they hit their peak at 28-29-30.”
“We have to be careful, but at the same time it’s so exciting to have good young goaltenders coming up the ranks.”
Besides Hart, the Flyers also have Felix Sandstrom and Samuel Errson who held their own within the net last season. With having Hart who played a career-high of 55 games this past season is one of the strong foundations for the Flyers’ success going forward.
When it comes to what needs improvement, Briere was transparent about the defense needing to get better. Briere stated, “We need some improvement, guys to step up, we have some good players that are at a crossroads that need to take a step moving forward on that position.”
Rebuild
One word that Flyers fans can feel a sense of relief with is rebuild. Briere wants a team that is hardworking and has a “fight back” mentality. This is something that Danny feels strongly about bringing back to the aggressiveness that the teams have been missing for years.
Player Development
Overall, when it comes to the Flyers’ future going forward another key asset is head coach, John Tortorella’s part in the rebuild. Luckily, one good takeaway of this past season with the Flyers was Tortorella coming in to develop the younger players.
This past season we saw the development of younger players such as Tyson Foerster, Owen Tippett, Wade Allison, and Noah Cates. This team has the potential to be successful with the right tools, and having a head coach who is so admitted about the constant development and progression of their players is a good start to the rebuild.
Luckily, for Flyers fans- with Danny Briere taking over as General Manager and Keith Jones as the President Of Hockey Operations the Flyers have a team that is ready for the upcoming draft taking place June 28th in Nashville.
