Flyers’ Comeback 4-3 Win Over The Panthers
By: Haley Taylor Simon
After brutally getting shutout on Monday (3-0) to the Sharks; the Flyers had much needed rest as they were set on hosting the Flordia Panthers. Florida is leading the Atlantic division with 12 points (before puck drop in South Philly tonight).
Unsurprisingly, the pattern of trailing in the first period didn’t take long as the Panthers (Forsling) got one beyond Hart; nearing only four minutes of play. Exactly 3 minutes to Forsling’s goal; DeAngelo answers for the Flyers equaling the game at one. Without hesitation Mahura gives the Panthers another lead 2-1. The period continued to be more Flordia dominate, but with time winding down Laughton equalized the game at two. After the first period the Panthers had 19 shots on goal compared to the Flyers’ nine despite the tied game.

Luckily, the Flyers were able to take the lead halfway through the second period. MacEwen with an assist by Seeler who gained his first point of the season. This goal was able to put the orange and black up 3-2. Not even 45 seconds after MacEwen’s goal the momentum continued as Farabee quickly secured the Flyers’ lead 4-2 ending the second period.
Nevertheless the final 20 minutes of action was not a breeze for the Flyers as the Panthers were able to cut the game by down by one; which is how the previous matchup against these two teams went this past weekend. In Flordia the Panthers won 4-3 and that’s exactly how the Flyers won in tonights matchup in their home arena based in South Philadelphia.
After the game Hart gave his thoughts on how the defense did tonight, “I thought we did a good job of keeping pucks to the outside; a lot of block shots. I think that’s something with our team this year and something that Torts has really stressed is to block shots and guys are really buying in and getting in lanes. I thought our PK was solid.” Hart had 48 saved shots on net tonight as the Panthers didn’t hold back on trying to put the pucks behind him. With the Panthers attempting as much as they did; it didn’t phase Hart.

Hart being the true star of tonights game it is evident the team plays better when he’s in net. Hart has been 5-0 in net so far this season as for the two games the Flyers loss Sandstrom was between the pipes.
Another standout tonight was Provorov as he got hit by the puck and got up to block a shot. Not only are his teamates such as Hayes, Hart, and Konecny praising him so is Tortorella. “He’s always been a great competitor. I just like his swagger he’s willing to carry a puck, carry the traffic, try to beat someone on the net, blocking shots. He plays some important minutes for us.”
The Flyers continue to lead the Metropolitan with 10 points while the Hurricanes and Penguins closely trail right behind with nine. The battle of the Metro picks up as Philadelphia will be hosting the Hurricanes Saturday night with a 7pm puck drop.
