Phillies Fans: Relax Or Don’t Watch (For Your Own Health)
Before you even read the next line of this piece, I need you to close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths.
Now, if you are one of the sane Phillies fans who realize that getting swept stinks, but getting swept in the first 3 games of 162 isn’t a big deal, then you can close this link now. However, if you are one of the fans freaking out or just more miserable than you really should be, please continue with your breathing exercise and then read some more.
The start of the season for the 2023 Phillies was a kick in the junk. Blown leads, bad outings by starting pitchers, and then a game where there was very little offense. BUT COME ON!!! It is 3 games. 3 of 162. That is just .018% of the entire season. Need I remind you that last year didn’t start that great either?
For your own sanity, you need to realize that a 3 game series in March and April should not jeopardize your own enjoyment of a team that you love. Did it suck? Of course it did! But how can you react to one series, and for some of you, one game, as if it were an Eagles-Cowboys Sunday Night matchup? You can’t do that with baseball.
I am not giving you any numbers to tell you why things will turn around. I am honestly just venting at my keyboard right now after seeing tweets, texts, and hearing callers on the station this weekend complaining nonstop. Losing 3 championships in one year is hard. But going to 3 championships in one year is better than nothing. We are constantly on edge in Philly right now waiting for one of the teams to break through. Well, that isn’t going to happen today, and it won’t happen tomorrow because the Phillies will still have over 150 games left to play in the regular season.
I love how passionate we are. But sometimes it isn’t “passion” when we are complaining about Rob Thomson not pulling Aaron Nola early enough on Opening Day. To get that worked up over it is something else.
I love the Phillies. I love my fellow Phillies fans. Let’s enjoy the ride and watch as things turn around soon.
