PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 05: Bryce Harper #3 of the Philadelphia Phillies (R) celebrates after hitting a grand slam during the eighth inning against the Los Angeles Angels at Citizens Bank Park on June 05, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

See what Andrew Salciunas found in The Audio Vault today! Every day Andrew dives into the Vault to pull out clips and audio relevant to the day. And with him and Anthony Gargano down in Clearwater, Andrew figured he would dedicate the next few days of the Vault to the Phillies. The Phillies’ 2023 season is just a few weeks away. But before we get there, he figured we should celebrate the 2022 Phillies. Starting today with the regular season.

Andrew, with help from Ray Dunne, put together the best moments of the Phillies’ regular season in 2022. Unlike the postseason, which was fun for mostly all of it until the last 3 games vs the Astros, the regular season was up and down. Hopes started high with some big additions like Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos. But then the Joe Girardi led Phils came out flat. They had a losing record through the first couple of months under him. but then despite national media types claiming firing Girardi would not help, it did.

The Phillies were suddenly the hottest team in baseball. And despite injuries to Harper and a very bumpy September, the Phillies finally broke a decade-long playoff drought. What got them to that point? Andrew made his list of the 9 best moments from the seasons. The biggest hits, the walk-offs, and the most exciting moments. Relive the season that finally turned October Red again for Philadelphia with Andrew and Anthony.

Here are Andrew Salciunas’s Top Moments from the 2022 Phillies’ Regular Season…

  • Kyle Schwarber Lead Off HR on Opening Day

Well, that is one way to start your Phillies career. What makes it even better is that Charlie Manuel called it. Kyle Schwarber started his Phillies career with a leadoff HR. He went on to hit 45 more in the regular season.

  • Nick Castellanos 2 Run Go Ahead HR vs Braves

Castellanos did not have a good first season for the Phillies. But there was at least one great moment. Early in August, with no Bryce Harper, Castellanos came up huge vs the Braves, clubbing a go-ahead HR in the 8th inning.

  • Bohm and Vierling Go Back to Back off Josh Hader

Josh Hader had a crazy save streak going. But then he ran into Alec Bohm and Matt Vierling. First Bohm tied the game, and then Vierling won it. Back-to-back HRs to end Hader’s streak, and giving the Phillies a win.

  • Joe Girardi Fired

Joe Girardi needed to be fired, no matter what National baseball writers thought. The Fact the Phillies went on a crazy winning streak proves that. And to signify that, Andre played Dave Dombrowski saying that the Phillies needed a new voice after firing Girardi, for the Vault today.

  • Bryce Harper's First Hit Back From The IL

Bryce Harper missed a decent amount of time. But he made up for it right away when he came back. His first at-bat off the IL came with the bases loaded and no outs. And he pulled a single into right field to give the Phillies an early 2-0 lead.

  • Vierling Throws Starling Marte Out at The Plate

The Phillies didn’t get many wins over the Mets in 2022. But one of the ones they did get, came courtesy of a great play in the field by Matt Vierling. Coming in as a defensive replacement for Kyle Schwarber, it took a great throw to the plate to keep Starlin Marte from scoring the winning run. And Vierling did just that. Throwing Marte out, so the Phillies could win it in extra innings.

  • Garrett Stubbs Walk Off HR

Garrett Stubbs makes for a unlikely hero. But it was Stubbs who hit a 3-run walk-off HR vs the Marlins.

  • Bryce Harper and Stott Tag Team To Beat Angels

In serious contention for the best moment of the season was when harper and Stott worked together to beat the Angels. First, it was Bryce Harper hitting a game-tying grand slam. but the Phillies were not done there. Because then Stott came up with two baserunners and smacked a Walk Off HR.

  • Phillies Break the Playoff Drought

And of course, you cant have a list of great regular-season moments and not include the moment that they broke the playoff drought. It came down to the final 3 games of the season, and the Phillies faced the Astros. But they wasted no time, winning game 1 behind a great performance by Aaron Nola. And Andrew played the final out of that game in the Vault today.
