James Harden Returns To Sixers Practice Facility Ahead Of Home Opener
The never-ending onslaught of James Harden drama continues. First, he did not show up to Media Day or the start of Training Camp. Then he finally did show up late. But then he left again for personal reasons and missed every Pre-Season game. Now? Well, apparently he is back again, just in time for the first game of the season tomorrow.
Does that mean he is going to eventually play? Well, he won’t be playing in the first game. According to Shams Charania, the Sixers have told James Harden he is not traveling with the team. Even though James Harden showed up with his bags with the intention of traveling, but the Sixers told him he is not joining them in Milwaukee. He could still eventually join his team on the court though.
The question is if that is what is best for the Sixers. You could argue that having him on the court, so he can be showcased for a potential trade, is what is best. But there is also the sense that he will come in and ruin the chemistry we saw in Nick Nurse’s system during the Pre-Season. We sat through Harden ball the last year and a half. And while it is great when it works, the two-man game and constant Iso ball gets stale fast. There is a good reason why Harden has never won anything in his career besides individual awards.
Harden is a talented player. And they will probably win more games if he is on the court. But he is terrible for the style of offense Nick Nurse likes to run. His style of basketball involves motion, creativity, and lots of people touching the ball. None of which gel with Harden ball at all. But until they can work out a trade, that poor marriage will probably have to wait it out. Hopefully, the resolution will come sooner rather than later so we don’t have to keep dealing with all of this.
