The season is over for Joel Embiid. After mulling it over for a few weeks, and consulting with medical experts, the Sixers have made the decision to end Joel Embiid's season, so they can focus on getting his knee injury healed.

Joel Embiid's Disaster Season is Over

The season has been a disaster for the entire Sixers, but specifically for Joel Embiid. Of the Sixers' 58 games, he was only on the floor for 19 so far. In most of those 19 games, he was a shell of himself. That is not me saying that, Embiid himself has spoken about being frustrated that he can not dominate like he usually does, and anyone who watched him could see that he was not right.

He missed the start of the year while he "ramped up" from the knee injury. He later missed time for a sinus fracture, and then an injured ankle. But throughout all of that, the knee injury was a reoccurring problem. He fought through regular swelling, and all along struggled to find the form that made him look like a back-to-back MVP early last season.

The focus now becomes getting the knee right. They have the rest of this season, and then the off-season, to fix the underlying problem.

The Sixers do not yet have a plan, but claim to be working with medical experts to develop the best treatment plan to get him back on the court, and back to himself, next season. In a statement to the media, they said they would share the plan whenever they finalize one.

The Sixers gave Joel Embiid a contract extension this past off-season. He has 3 seasons left after this one, including a player option for the 2028-2029 season.
