Charles Barkley Explains to Mike Why He is Not a Fan of the Harden Trade
Charles Barkley was not a big fan of the Sixers trade for James Harden, at least not yet. He shared that displeasure last night on Inside the NBA. Where he said the Nets won this trade. Though its worth mentioning both Kenny and Shaq seemed to like the trade for the Sixers. You can see that conversation with the Inside the NBA Crew here.
As a good friend of the Mike Missanelli Show, Mike had to get Charles on the air today to explain his stance. The two went back and forth, with Mike questioning Charles stance that the Sixers gave up too much. Charles raised multiple concerns ranging from if Harden has slowed down, if he can fit with Embiid, how Tobias Harris will fit in there, and more. Here is some of what he had to say.
On his fit with Joel Embiid
“Joel Embiid is the MVP, I want the ball in his hand more than anyone in the world right now, he’s the most unstoppable force in the NBA today. When James has the ball, he will take it out of Embiid’s hands. The most dominant player in the NBA today wont have the ball because James is going to be dribbling.”
On how Tobias Harris will fit
“Three guys are not going to score. (Harris) is not going to have the ball. Joel and James are going to have the ball lets say 95% of the time. Tobias to me is going to be interesting, because he is going to have figure out a way to help the team, because (he’s) not going to get a lot of shots. And the one thing he can’t do is is ‘well let me get my shots’ and take bad shots.”
Championship or Bust
“When you make a trade for James Harden, it is Championship or Bust. They had to make a deal, I agree with that. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Its going to be fun watching the Sixers the next 2-3 months… It doesn’t matter what any of these other teams did. The next 3 months are going to be all about James Harden and Joel Embiid. Can they make this thing work. That’s the only thing that matters for the rest of the NBA season.”
