Sixers injury update: Joel Embiid, Glenn Robinson III, Raul Neto expected to practice
A day after Joel Embiid missed the Sixers’ second scrimmage with discomfort in his right calf, the All-Star center is expected to participate in a light practice Monday, a source told NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Embiid’s absence in the Sixers’ loss to the Thunder on Sunday was considered precautionary. The team will have an update on his status Tuesday ahead of its final scrimmage against the Mavericks.
“I believe that we’re just getting out in front of stuff and being smart with it,” Brett Brown said before the scrimmage Sunday.
When asked after the game if either he or Embiid had concern given the big man’s injury history, Brown was blunt.
“Neither of us have concern,” Brown said.
Glenn Robinson III is also expected to practice today. The reserve wing suffered a left hip pointer in the second quarter Sunday when he collided with Oklahoma City’s Terrance Ferguson. He was forced to leave the game and did not return.
Brown was optimistic about both Robinson’s health and where he was in the competition for minutes on the wing.
“Nothing, I guess, that serious, but I think he’s been playing really well,” Brown said. “I’ve been happy with him all over the place. He had great practice sessions as well.”
Reserve point guard Raul Neto was a late scratch Sunday with lower back tightness. He is expected to practice as well. Like Embiid, an update on Robinson and Neto will be provided ahead of Tuesday night’s scrimmage.
