Sixers Acquire Buddy Hield From The Pacers
The Sixers have made their first move of the deadline. Buddy Hield has been the subject of trade rumors to the Sixers for a few years now. But now it has finally materialized. The Sixers are sending Furkan Korkmaz, Marcus Morris, and a trio of 2nd round picks to Indiana in exchange for the 8th-year Shooting Guard, per Adrian Wojnarowski.
Buddy Hield currently averages 12 points over 25.7 minutes per game. That goes with a 38.4 shooting % from deep, and a 44.3 shooting % overall. In his career, he shoots 40.1% from beyond the arc.
The good news is the Sixers didn’t have to move any of their newly acquired 1st round picks. So they keep the flexibility to either make another move at this deadline or to make a move after the season. Marcus Morris has been an effective player for them, and his Philly roots made him a bit of a fan favorite. But he was playing just 17 minutes per game here.
The interesting part of the deal is that it finally ends the Korkmaz era. Korkmaz has wanted a trade out of Philly for a while now. Mostly because he rarely ever saw the floor here. But due to a lack of interest, he never got moved. He gets added onto these deals though to make the money work, and finally gets his wish. And in return, the Sixers get a player who will contribute on a nightly basis.
Reporters around the NBA have been saying the Sixers will be busy today. And if they want to stay in the Playoff race without Joel Embiid, they will need to be. Last night’s loss to the Warriors sealed how ineffective this team is without the reigning MVP. And this move gives them a guy that can help them stay afloat, without having to give up too many assets for the future.
Hield is on the last year of the deal. So the Sixers can either re-sign him in the off-season or let him walk and gain cap flexibility. Having that cap space for this off-season is something Daryl Morey has stressed a ton this off-season. So expect any more deals they make to also be for guys on expiring contracts.
