Tyrese Maxey Has 9th Most All-Star Votes In The East So Far
The first returns for the NBA All-Star voting are in. Embiid is 2nd in votes behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that is no surprise. But Embiid is not the only All-Star-worthy player on the Sixers. Tyrese Maxey is in the midst of a career year and has looked like a Super Star to this point. And that is being rewarded, with him having the 9th most votes out of the Eastern Conference so far this season.
That is also the 5th most among guards. With Tyrese Haliburton, Damian Lillard, Trae Young, and Donovan Mitchell all ahead of him right now in the East. It seems unlikely Maxey gets in through the fan vote. But 12 players make it out of each conference, so there is a good chance he gets in as a reserve. Fan voting accounts for 50% of the vote to determine the starters. The other 50% is split between the players and the media. And coaches select the reserves for each conference.

Tyrese Maxey is currently 13th in scoring this season with 25.9 points per game. He is also 16th in assists with 6.4 per game. His 3-point shooting is down a bit from last season, from 43.4 % down to 38.8%. But that comes with him shooting an extra 2 threes per game, So he is still on track for a career-high in 3pters made. This all goes with his improved defense. Maxey has talked about making an effort to be more physical on that side of the ball, and it is paying off.
The NBA is going back to an East vs West format for the All-Star this season, after several years of having the two All-Star captains drafting their teams from the pool of All-Stars. They reveal the starters on January 25th during TNT NBA Tip-off before the Heat-Celtics game at 7:30. They reveal the reserves one week later on February 1st.
