Alvin Williams Discusses Nick Nurse w/ Devon Givens
The Sixers are onto their 3rd coach of the Process Era. It started with Brett Brown. But after the Sixers lost in the bubble, they moved on from him. Their next option was Doc Rivers. He coached to the Sixers to a lot of regular season success. But 3 2nd round exits later, he was fired too. Enter Nick Nurse, who the Sixers hired to be their next head coach back in May. And to get some insight on what type of coach Nick Nurse will be, Devon Givens talked to someone who covered him in Toronto. Alvin Williams.
Alvin Williams, who once played for the Villanova Wildcats back in the 90s, has been a TV Analyst for the Raptors since 2015. Before that he worked in their front office. So he has been there for the whole Nick Nurse era. Saw him win with Kawhi Leonard. And also saw the team start to regress the past couple of years. So Alvin Williams, more than most, is qualified to judge what type of coach Nick Nurse will be in Philly.
Here is what Alvin thinks stands out most about Nick Nurse as a coach:
“The thing that always stood out to me is I have always seen him have the ability to have his team buy in. it is hard to have an NBA team of Veteran guys, and have full court presses, or zone defenses. His team always did it, and they always did it with effort. That lets me know those guys bought in. I feel like he has a vice in the locker room where the players will go out there and do it, and not tune him out. That is one of the biggest things you need to have as a coach. Especially in a veteran locker room.”
