Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles move up in the 3rd round of the draft and they gave up nothing to do it. (Well, some would argue they gave up the guy who cost the team a Lombardi trophy but thats another post for another time.) The NFL investigated a complaint made by the Eagles over the Arizona Cardinals hiring of then Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. The Eagles felt like the Cardinals tampered and it turns out the NFL agreed.

The league announced that the two teams would swap third round picks. So the Eagles now move from pick 94 to pick 66. All because the Cardinals couldn’t WAIT to hire the mastermind of the “leave a guy wide open to walk into the endzone” defense. (Kidding JG. I actually liked your defense apart from the final game.)

Moving up 28 spots in the draft is no small feat. The Eagles will draft at 62 in the second round and then 4 picks later they’ll now be on the clock again. The Eagles could use one of these selections to possibly move down in the draft and recoup some assets because they do not have another pick until round 7. But if they use both of these picks at where they are slated then it could be a very quiet Saturday at Novacare.

Either way, we will keep you updated on all the moves the Eagles make to bolster the roster for the 2023 season.

Day 2: Best Players Available For The Eagles In The NFL Draft

What a Thursday night for the Eagles! Howie Roseman had a near flawless draft as he took who many think is the best player in the draft, Jalen Carter. Roseman was able to trade up 1 pick, giving up a 4th rounder for next season, to acquire the Georgia Bulldog. But Howie wasnt done. The Eagles also owned the #30 pick in the draft, their own, and Howie grabbed ANOTHER Georgia Bulldog as edge rusher Nolan Smith fell to them.

So how will Howie Roseman and the Eagles front office follow up their incredible first round? The Eagles will have two picks on Friday. Their first will come with the 62nd overall pick in round 2. Their next pick will be just a few picks later when they draft at 66 after an NFL investigation deemed that the Arizona Cardinals tampered in the hiring of Jonathan Gannon.

So here are some players that the Eagles could target Friday night. It’s in no particular order and the rankings listed are from NFL.com and ESPN.

  • CB/S: Brian Branch From Alabama

Branch is a cornerback/safety that could certainly help the Eagles secondary

    NFL Ranking: 11
    ESPN Ranking 30

  • TE: Michael Mayer From Notre Dame

Dallas Goedert is now older than Zach Ertz was when the Eagles took Dallas Goedert. The team lacks TE depth and could look to improve the position

    NFL Ranking: 18
    ESPN Ranking: 19

  • CB: Joey Porter Jr. From Penn State

I think a lot of folks in Philadelphia would be pumped to see a Penn State player go to the Eagles. But the Eagles have an older cornerback core so getting a player that can learn from Slay and Bradberry wouldnt be the worst thing.

    NFL Ranking: 22
    ESPN Ranking: 23

  • LB: Drew Sanders From Arkansas

The Eagles LB core is never something they heavily invest in but a core of Nakobe Dean and Drew Sanders could be enticing.

    NFL Ranking: 10
    ESPN Ranking: 70

  • OG: Steve Avila From TCU

The Eagles have already addressed the defensive side of the trenches but what about the OL? Avila could be an interesting depth pick for next season, and then slide into the starting rotation next year after Kelce retires.

    NFL Ranking: 56
    ESPN Ranking: 34

  • TE: Luke Musgrave From Oregon State

The same reasons the Eagles would take Mayer is the same reason they would take Musgrave.

    NFL Ranking: 12
    ESPN Ranking: 31

  • OT: Keanu Benton From Wisconsin

How long does Lane Johnson have left? The Eagles have recently had a history of trying to find the heir apparent so they can learn behind the All-Pro vet. Could Benton be the next one?

    NFL Ranking: 68
    ESPN Ranking: 35

  • WR: Marvin Mims Jr. From Oklahoma

Marvin Mims Jr would, on paper, be an upgrade over Quez Watkins. Mims would be a luxury but the Eagles could look to load up on offensive weapons for Hurts

    NFL Ranking: 62
    ESPN Ranking: 60

  • DE: Keion White From Georgia Tech

The Eagles have already gone defensive line twice, but they still could use more depth on the edge. White would certainly be a boost, along with Nolan Smith. Adding White to a rotation that includes Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham would help the Eagles pass rush immensely

    NFL Ranking: 20
    ESPN Ranking: 45

  • WR: Josh Downs From North Carolina

Downs is a slot WR. See the reasoning I gave for Mims Jr as the reason the Eagles could look at Downs.

    NFL Ranking: 16
    ESPN Ranking: 63
