James Harden Talks To Anthony Gargano From Sixers Media Day
It is Sixers Media Day! And James Harden joined Anthony Gargano live from the Sixers Practice Facility. This is what James Harden had to say…
On Getting Into Great Shape in the Off-Season
“I just finally had an offseason to focus on myself and my body. Whether it was dieting and rest or proper training. A combination of all 3 of those was key. I feel really good. And I am excited about what we have as a unit.”
On Taking a Paycut to help Improve the Roster
“That’s what I am here for. That is the only reason I am here. To win, and to win at the highest level. And make this city proud. I told them, go sign whoever we need to sign, to make this roster the best we can, and I will take whatever is left. Because at this point, I just want to win. And Daryl and the front office went out and did that. I feel like as an entire unit we are confident… With that being said, we still need to go out and put the work in to make sure we are the last team standing.”
On the Relief of Coming Here
“It was a relief. There were a lot of internal things going on that weren’t great, but then getting here was a relief…. but there was still something that wasn’t right as far as my body goes. Now, I’m comfortable here. I feel like I was thrown into the fire. I had high expectations, and it just didn’t work out for whatever reason. Now it is just like, I get a full year, let’s see where we can take this thing.”
On Feeling More Comfortable Here
“We only played 20 regular season games together, and then the playoffs. But really getting to know Joel, Tyrese, Tobias the entire team, and even the coaching staff, makes my job a lot easier. I am always comfortable, but now I feel like I am at home.”
On Mentoring Tyrese Maxey
“He’s a great kid, he works his butt off. He is happy. But I have been trying to get some of the happiness away. In the sense that when he gets on the court, we need you to be like a little pit bull. We need you like a little dog. You need to get mad sometimes. I don’t want you smiling at everything. I want you to be mad and get pissed sometimes. He has a hard time with that because he is such a good kid. Once he gets that, he can take his game to the next level.”
