Phillies Stunned in Front Of Home Crowd in NLCS Game 6
The Philadelphia Phillies entered Game 6 of the NLCS against the Arizona Diamondbacks with the chance to clinch their second consecutive National League pennant. A stunning 5-1 loss forces a Game 7 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night at 8pm.
Diamondbacks Down Phillies in Game 6
Aaron Nola recovered from a disappointing regular season with three excellent playoff starts. His postseason ERA entering Game 6 was under 1.00, and he also had the opportunity to write his name into the history books of Phillies playoff heroes.
The Diamondbacks took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning behind solo home runs by Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and an RBI double by Evan Longoria.
Nola left the game in the 5th inning with a three-run deficit. During the 2022 MLB Playoffs, he was excellent in his first two starts before struggling in his final three. He’ll have to wait and hope for a chance at redemption in the World Series.
Offense Goes Silent at Citizens Bank Park
The Phillies chased the game after getting into the early hole, but they never caught up. Merrill Kelly managed the noise of the Red October crowd well through five strong innings. Even after Torey Lovullo lifted his starter early, the bullpen also slammed the door on an ice cold Phillies offense.
Brandon Marsh drove home J.T. Realmuto in the 2nd inning for their only run.
The TBS broadcast consistently pointed to how Arizona had silenced the crowd at Citizens Bank Park. However, while the Phillies were trailing, the crowd got loud for any baserunner or any glimpse of momentum. The players gave them nothing to cheer about.
The loss forces the first Game 7 in Phillies history (remarkably). Ranger Suarez will take the mound with the season on the line. The Diamondbacks will counter with Brandon Pfaadt.
The optimism is gone. All the pressure now lies on the shoulders of the Phillies with one more opportunity to advance to the World Series.
