Joel Embiid Said the Last Thing I Want to Hear
Anthony Gargano reacted to Joel Embiid’s comments in his Opening Diatribe this morning:
“The not-so-good news is the Joel Embiid talk. What he said about winning a championship. Listen, guys are guys, I understand in the NBA it is a players league. But coming home and hearing this? I don’t appreciate it, Joel.
Was not expecting Joel Embiid to say “or anywhere else” when talking about championships… He’s close to his breaking point here in Philly. pic.twitter.com/0MqXX1rnrT

Whether it is in Philly or somewhere else? I don’t appreciate it. One of the reasons they haven’t won a championship is going back to when they had Butler, Joel had a case of the tummies. I love him. I have talked about how incredible of a player he is. he is one of my favorite players. but he went out with a whimper. In game 6 you didn’t touch the ball, and you didn’t demand the ball. Then in game 7 you and James Harden quit.
I hate to say it, and I don’t want to be nasty about it. But that rubs me the wrong way. The last thing I need to see is him going somewhere else and winning a title. I am not going to be happy for him. We haven’t had a title since 1983. Before most of you were born. So I don’t want to hear it.
Quite frankly, I am looking at this roster, and I’m praying Morey has something up his sleeve. I don’t understand the merits of 3 backup bigs. They are a bucket of chicken right now, with no wings. Where is the scoring? There has to be something else. In a game where the big is devalued, now you have all of those backup bigs?
When Joel says I want to win a title, I am with you. We have been with you. We suffered through the process with you. Just don’t say elsewhere. Say I want to win a championship in Philadelphia. Joel is a bright man. Everything he says, he knows what he is saying. That was said on purpose. And the idea of him winning elsewhere is frightening. If I’m a Sixers fan, that is the last thing I want to hear.”
