Eagles Roll Over Cowboys To Take Over 1st Place In NFC East
After Jalen Hurts took 5 sacks in the 1st half, most of which were him holding it too long, there may have been some angst about this game. The Eagles got the ball back late in the 2nd half with just a 7-6 lead, and there was real concern about the direction this game was going. However, any concerns people had were quickly erased from there.
Hurts quickly took his team down the field to score TD before the half, and the Eagles never looked back. By the time the 4th quarter came around, the Eagles were resting their starters. A big deal for them, considering the quick turnaround they have against the Commanders this Thursday. They left Dallas with a easy 34-6 win.
Eagles Dominate Down In Dallas
It was a complete and total beatdown. The Cowboys offense, led by Cooper Rush and later Trey Lance, had no chance against this young and dynamic Eagles defense. While the first half was a struggle, the Eagles offense eventually took over. They scored 34 points, and could have scored more had they played the starters in the 4th quarter.
Hurts had his issues early. The interception is hard to blame him for, Diggs just made a great play. But the fumble, and the other 4 sacks, were him holding the ball too long. But what we saw is him start slow, and bounce back. The rest of the game we saw him have better pocket awareness. When there was nothing there he was throwing it away. He spearheaded 4 TD drives, with him being involved in all 4 TDs.
This defense at one point had the fewest takeaways in the game. But now they have 3 straight weeks with multiple takeaways, including 4 forced fumbles and an interception today.
Moving Into 1st Place
But beating up the Cowboys was not the only thing that went well for the Eagles today. They also saw Washington lose in the 1 pm window. The Steelers came back late to hand the Commanders their 3rd loss of the season. Which means the Eagles now own sole possession of 1st place in the NFC East,
They will get a chance to expand on that lead this Thursday. It is a 2 horse race. It has been for a few weeks, but the Cowboys losing this poorly, and losing Dak Prescott for the season, puts the nail in their coffin. It is between the Eagles and Washington, and the Eagles can move into a multi-game lead if they win on Thursday.
Everything seems to be going well for the Eagles. Hurts, a slow start today aside, is playing the best football we have seen from him since 2022. The defense is clicking on all cylinders. And their schedule is very manageable.
At 7-2, they have control of their own future. Just keep winning, and you will win the NFC East. To get the number 1 overall seed, they would need the Lions to lose a couple more games. But despite the slow start to the season, no one can deny the Eagles are back among the elite teams in the NFC. They arent just beating teams, they are demolishing them.
