The Most Ridiculous QB Rankings List Of All Time
Doing QB Rankings is hard. I am not going to deny that. No matter what you do, you are going to piss off a few fanbases. But there are some lists nearly every fanbase will agree are ridiculous. Sanjesh Singh of NBC Sports gave us just that.
I don’t know Sanjesh. I am sure he is a great guy. But as I read his Top 10 QB Rankings, which you can check out here, I was blown away. Let’s start with where he had Jalen Hurts.
9. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
As far as where he fell, I am okay with 9. I would put Hurts higher, but debating over 6-10 is splitting hairs. After last season it is fair to put Jalen Hurts outside the elite QBs, but in that second tier. And credit to Sanjesh, in terms of National Guys, he has Hurts higher than most lists.
My only problem is with some of his reasons. He said Hurts needs to prove he can air it out when trailing. Something Hurts has done. Hurts was trailing in the Super Bowl and led a game-tying drive. They were trailing vs the Bills this year, and Hurts pulled them back into the game. Hurts has already proven he can air it out when asked to. That was not at all their problem last year.
Also knowing where he will go with this list, it is rich to knock Hurts for this but not who he has ranked 3rd.
Next Few Spots In His QB Rankings
He put Stafford at 8, which I disagree with. Stafford should be higher in my opinion. Until he proves otherwise, he is still in my top 5. But I am not too upset about that.
I strongly disagree with putting Jordan Love at 7 over Hurts. Love was great to close out last season, but it is one half of a season. If people are going to put Hurts down for having only 1 good year, then they can’t obsess over 1 good half season by Love.
Burrow at 6 is fine. Again, I would rank him higher, but it’s splitting hairs a bit. The problems start with who he has at 5.
5. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
I’m sorry, what? There are 4 QBs better than Lamar?
Putting Lamar, a 2-time MVP winner, outside the top 3, is flat-out silly. The reasoning is that he has not proven it in the playoffs. Which fair enough. He does need to be better in the playoffs. But given the next few names on this list. Its a knock that falls kind of hollow.
If you are going to put so much on playoff success. Why is Hurts, who went to the Super Bowl and came closer to beating Mahomes than any other QB in the past two seasons, only at 9?
4. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
You can’t knock Lamar for the playoffs, then give me Josh Allen. Both guys lost to Mahomes, and both had bad games in those losses. Allen, like Lamar, has yet to prove anything in the playoffs. The big difference is Lamar has been better in the regular season and does not have the glaring flaw of too many turnovers.
Allen is a tremendous talent. But Lamar is simply better. You can make a strong case, especially by the standards this writer is using, that Jalen Hurts is better too.
3. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
Okay, this entire list is now null and void. There is no justifiable reason to put Purdy at 3. None. Will it surprise you the writer is out of the Bay Area? You can go to his Twitter and see him in a San Francisco Giants jersey
He has talked about other players disappearing in the playoffs. Meanwhile Purdy disappeared in the Super Bowl. He has talked about people being unproven, Purdy has 1 good season. And this writer didn’t mention it, but people knock Hurts all the time for having a great team around him, but meanwhile Purdy also has elite weapons, and unlike Hurts, has a great offensive scheme to go with it.
He talks about Hurts not proving he can throw his team back into games. But are we forgetting that the 49ers famously never come back in games they trail in the 4th quarter? It’s an issue that predates Purdy, but he certainly hasn’t improved upon it. Purdy’s ability to throw his team back into games is WAY more in question than Hurts who did it multiple times last season in a year people call a down year for him.
I am guilty of homerism when it comes to Hurts, which puts him a bit higher on my list than he likely deserves. But I am not this much of a homer where I put him in my top 3.
2. C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
I am a big Stroud fan. I can easily see him moving into the top 5 after this season. But with all the talk of other players being unproven, how do you put a guy who has played 1 season this high? Lamar has a lot to prove, but Stroud doesn’t?
There is no reason he should be over anyone on this list, yet, besides maybe Brock Purdy and Jordan Love who also are only 1 year wonders for now.
My Own QB Rankings
If I am going to rip a guy for his rankings, I need to be willing to make a fool of myself too. So here are my QB rankings, which I acknowledge could be just as bad as this writer. Like I said, QB Rankings are hard, and me ripping Sanjesh is all in good fun. It is the purpose of the lists. To cause debate and welcome outrage.
Also, I didn’t mention this, but credit to Sanjesh for having the guts to leave Herbert, Prescott, and Lawrence off the list as honorable mentions. Herbert and Lawrence are all upside, no proof. And Prescott, while he will be on my list, is actually what people accuse Lamar Jackson of being. A playoff choker. Just without as much regular season success.
- 10) Jordan Love
- 9) CJ Stroud
- 8) Dak Prescott
- 7) Aaron Rodgers
- 6) Jalen Hurts
- 5) Josh Allen
- 4) Joe Burrow
- 3) Matthew Stafford
- 2) Lamar Jackson
- 1) Patrick Mahomes
Love stays toward the bottom because I have not seen enough, though he was impressive to close out the season. The same goes with Stroud. Both seem to have bright futures, but the sample size is way too small to put them top 5.
Sanjesh has Rodgers 10, I put him a bit higher at 7. He was an MVP the last time we saw him, so maybe we both have him too low. My gut just said put him at 7 before Hurts though.
3 for Stafford might seem high, but we have seen him be great over a longer period, and he has led his team to a Super Bowl. That has to count for something. 2 and 1 I don’t think are even debatable.
