Quinyon Mitchell Appears To Be As Good As Advertised
You never really know how good a player is until they step on the field in a game. Being great in College, or in an NFL Training Camp, does not…

DETROIT, MICHIGAN – APRIL 25: Quinyon Mitchell celebrates with fans after being selected 22nd overall by the Philadelphia Eagles during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza on April 25, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan.

Being great in College, or in an NFL Training Camp, does not always mean you will be good in the NFL. So we still can't say for sure that Quinyon Mitchell is going to live up to the hype. But everything we are hearing should have Eagles fans very excited for what is to come with him.
He came in and seemingly won the job in the slot. Mind you, that is not something he had done before. In College, he was an outside Corner. You can ask anyone around the NFL, moving inside is not a seamless transition. Vic Fangio often talks about it like it is a completely different position than cornerback. But Mitchell came in and ran away with it.
The Eagles have been searching for a great young corner for a while. They haven't had it since the days of Lito Shepard and Sheldon Brown. For so long they relied on bringing in outside guys like Darius Slay, Asante Samuel, James Bradberry, Ronald Darby, etc. You'd have to actually go back to Lito Shepard to find the last CB the Eagles spent a 1st round pick on.

Quinyon Mitchell Living Up To The Hype
Mitchell got to battle with AJ Brown and Devonta Smith in camp. Elite NFL Corners are going to struggle to do that. But from everything we heard out of camp, Mitchell didn't back down. He held his own and went after them like you would want any great corner to do.
Dave Zangaro joined The Best Show Ever on Friday, and he talked about how impressed he has been with Mitchell in camp.
"He's been everything as advertised. I know that there were still some people worried about the level of competition, I was so impressed by him. All training camp, aside from just the actual plays he made on the field, just his poise going up and battling against AJ Brown and Devonta Smith every day. Now those guys beat him. I mean, they beat everyone. They're really good players. But I think what impressed me most about him was that he would get beat and still talk trash and still want to compete with them. I was so impressed by him."
The way Mitchell battled with AJ Brown was certainly one of the big camp stories. Seeing a rookie be so confident against one of the best WRs in the NFL was impressive. It is excatly what you want. Corners can't have long memories. Even when they get beat, and Mitchell will at some point get beat, they need to move on and be ready to fight the next time out.
Mitchell clearly has that. He obviously still has a ton to prove, but we now he has the right mind set to play corner.
Zangaro went on to explain that he doesn't think Mitchell is going to leave the field very often.
"I don't think going to leave the field as a rookie... I think he's going to start in the base package outside and then bump inside in the nickel package. Which is a lot on the plate of anyone, especially a rookie. But they had that much confidence in him. And that's not to say there won't be some bumps and bruises along the way. I think any rookie cornerback is going to face some problems in that first season, but I have a ton of faith in him. I know that organization does. He's going to play an awful lot."

So yes, we have not seen him in a real game yet, so we can't crown him yet. But the reporters present at training camp all gush about him, the Eagles themselves are showing you how much they believe in him, and he is already acting the part of a star corner.
Howie Roseman does not have the best history drafting defensive players, outside of Defensive Tackle. But from all available information, it seems he may have struck gold with Quinyon Mitchell.

Training Camp is almost over. We get the final game of the preseason this weekend, and then by Tuesday, we will know what the Eagles 53-man Roster looks like. But who will be on it? What surprise cuts could there be? Which guy who we thought had no chance played his way onto the roster?
The Eagles already shook this up a bit. On Thursday Howie Roseman did what Howie does, and made a surprise trade. He acquired Jahan Dotson and a 5th Round Pick from the Commanders for a 3rd-round pick and two 7th-round picks. Answering the question of who would win the WR3 job, and likely making a few guys who were battling for that spot nervous about their future.

But that is only 1 spot settled. There are 52 other spots we are waiting to hear about. But obviously the majority of those are already set in stone too. There are truly only a handful of spots 40 or so guys are fighting for. The final spots at the edge of each position group. Some position groups might not even have that wiggle room.
Who will fill out those final spots? Who will they keep at WR after AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson? Can Tanner Mckee actually supplant Kenny Pickett as QB2? Who wins the final TE spot? How many of their cornerbacks will they keep? Does James Bradberry get cut, or did he do enough to convince the Eagles to keep him as a Safety?
The Eagles have to cut down the roster by Tuesday. So before that happens, let's take a shot in the dark at predicting what the Eagles final 53-man Roster will look like.

Here Is The Final Eagles 53-man Roster Prediction:
QB (3)
No surprise here. Grier was never actually here to play, he was here to help Pickett implement his system. From the time they signed him, everyone knew he would be cut. The only question is who will the backup be. I don't think they make the switch to McKee. Maybe if Pickett has to play, and looks as bad as he did in Pre-Season.

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 12: Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles throws a pass against the Kansas City Chiefs during the fourth quarter in Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium on February 12, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona.
RB (3)
Again, not much debate here. Saquon, Kenny, and Will are locks. After them, there is no one worth keeping as a 4th RB. Kendall Milton hasn't shown anything special in camp. Why keep a guy who would just be inactive every week?

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - DECEMBER 11: Saquon Barkley #26 of the New York Giants celebrates after scoring a five yard touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during the second quarter in the game at MetLife Stadium on December 11, 2023 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
WR (6)
The top 3, and even the top 4, are obvious here. The question is who rounds out the roster. I don't think Parris Campbell and John Ross are worth keeping. If they, as vets, couldn't win that Wr3 spot, what is the point? Keep the young guys, they might actually be able to help you.

LANDOVER, MARYLAND - OCTOBER 29: DeVonta Smith #6 celebrates a fourth quarter touchdown with A.J. Brown #11 of the Philadelphia Eagles during a game against the Washington Commanders at FedExField on October 29, 2023 in Landover, Maryland.
TE (3)
No more Albert O. They traded for him last year. Kept him inactive all year. He did nothing when Goedert got hurt. And then we hear nothing from him in camp. We have heard a lot about EJ Jenkins though, and it sounds like he will be your TE3. Calcaterra is also on watch after putting up so little production in his first two seasons.

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 01: Dallas Goedert #88 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates a first down reception during the third quarter against the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field on October 01, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
OL (10)
This is the hardest position to predict. We know the starting 5. It is very clear Becton won the RG job. But who will be the backups? Steen is a lock, as is Fred Johnson. I think they hold onto the two draft picks too. That leaves Kinnard or Brett Toth. As much as they probably love the versatility of Toth, I think they need to hold onto another Tackle in Kinnard instead.

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - DECEMBER 03: Lane Johnson #65 and Cam Jurgens #51 of the Philadelphia Eagles warms up prior to the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field on December 03, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Edge- (5)
DL (5)
LB (5)
Cornerback (6)
This one is tough. The first 5 guys are locks. It comes down to Josh Jobe vs Eli Ricks. Neither should see the field much on defense with how much depth there is here. So the difference is the fact Jobe is a great Special Teams player. Cutting Ricks will be tough, they may try to trade him first, but if it comes down to keeping Jobe or Ricks, you keep Jobe.

Safety (4)
PUP- Sydney Brown
It feels like Brown will miss the start of the season. So it gives them the space to hold onto an extra Safety for the first 4 weeks. I think Avonte Maddox sticks around, and maybe even gets a bulk of the playing time at the other Safety spot. And I think Bradberry is gone.
Once Brown gets back, it will be between McCollum and Maddox to see who goes to make room for him.

Special Teams (3)
Nothing to even debate here. Mann solidified Punter last year after replacing Sipposs, Elliott is one of the best kickers in the league, and Lovato never makes a mistake as the long snapper. None of them have any competition in camp.

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - AUGUST 24: Jake Elliott #4 of the Philadelphia Eagles reacts after making a field goal during the first quarter against the Indianapolis Colts at Lincoln Financial Field on August 24, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
