Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford Make MLB Futures Team
When the annual MLB All-Star Futures Game takes place during the All-Star break, there will be some decent Phillies representation. Both Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford have been named to the NL Teams. Both guys will take part in the game when it is played on July 13th, giving Phillies fans a chance to see what could be the future of the team.
Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford Headline Improving Phillies Farm System
For the 1st time in a while, it feels like the Phillies have a decent farm system. Aidan Miller, Andrew Painter, Justin Crawford, Mick Abel, and Starlyn Caba, all rank within the top 100 MLB prospects.
Aidan Miller has found himself being one of the greatest risers on the list in all of baseball. He is all the way up to 28 now in just his first full season in the Phillies farm system. People in the Phillies organization have called him the next Mike Schmidt. While that may be a bit overzealous, there is real hype around him in the MLB.
Miller looked great in Low A, hitting .275, with an OPS of .884. He has struggled in his first few weeks of High A ball, but that is not too unusual. Scouts love his game and think that he can grow into an elite power bat at some point.
Justin Crawford has been playing in High A all season. Despite a slow start, he has turned things around and his slash line is currently sitting at .287/.333/415/748 with 24 steals.
Abel meanwhile is in danger of falling out. He dropped from 49, all the way down to 98. Scouts love his stuff, but we have yet to see it pay off in games. he currently has an ERA over 5.0 in AAA. Meanwhile, Painter has not pitched this season while he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
It is currently Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford headlining the system. We will get a chance to see them against the best young players in baseball at the Futures All-Star Game this year. it will be Crawford’s second appearance in the game and Milles 1st.
With the Phillies expected to be busy at the deadline, it could also be a showcase for one or both of them. The Phillies likely don’t want to trade Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford, but if it helps them win this year, it could be on the table for the right piece.
