Rhys Hoksins Shows The Kind Hearts Of Philadelphia Sports Fans
Sports are beautiful. A regular season baseball game in June can welcome a sold-out crowd to not only watch their favorite team, but also a former favorite player. Over 43 thousand fans attended the Phillies-Brewers game at Citizen’s Bank Park and saw the return of Rhys Hoskins.
Before the season started, Hoskins was on a podcast hosted by former Phillies catcher Erik Kratz. Kratz asked Hoskins what he expected to hear when he made his return to Philly, and Hoskins said he expected to hear boos.
I’m sorry Rhys. Did you pay attention when you were here at all? There was a 0% chance that he was going to get booed when he first stepped up to the plate in a Brewers uniform.
A Great Ovation For Rhys Hoskins
The moment at the top of the 2nd inning yesterday was absolutely beautiful. Brewers right fielder Sal Frelick struck out, and before he could even exit the batters box, the 43 thousand strong were already on their feet to welcome back Hoskins. The ovation lasted much longer than the built-in pitch clock (way to go ump, way to not ruin the moment!).
The ovation was loud, emotional for Hoskins and fans alike, and something that should be shown across all national platforms.
Rhys Hoskins Shows We Do Care
One of the biggest lies in this beautiful city is “No one likes us, we don’t care.” I do care dammit. The tired stories of snowballs at Santa and jail cells at the Vet (which imploded over 20 years ago now) should not be referenced anymore.
What should continue to be referenced is the passion that we have, and if you do anything that resembles winning for one of our teams, you will forever be a hero.
Rhys Hoskins never accomplished the ultimate goal here in Philly, winning a championship. However, Hoskins meant so much to the team we see today. He was the first bright light during a 10-year playoff drought, and the longest-tenured player when they reached the World Series in 2022.
The bond we will have with Hoskins will ultimately be filled with positive memories and we showed that last night. Great job Philadelphia, you rock.
