So, the towns that made the top 10 are favorites from traveler experts and actual visitors, making this a real-life tally of the best small towns in America.
USA Today Highlights Pennsylvania Small Town
A new list is out from USA Today listing the best small towns in America. They actually divided the list into specific areas of the country. So, they have different lists for the Midwest, Northeast, South and out West. I think it’s a fantastic way to highlight different small towns in America, by focusing on their specific regions. Another benefit is that if you want to take a road trip to a beautiful small town, you can just find the list that pertains to your area more than the others and would requite a shorter road trip.
The lists of the best small towns in America are part of USA Today’s “10 Best.” As for methodology, they state, “Our travel experts select the top 20 nominees in contests covering food, lodging, destinations, travel gear, things to do…the list goes on. Then it’s up to you to make the final decision by casting your vote.” So, the list begins with some choices cultivated by travel experts, and then, the readers pick their favorites. For the small town features, travel experts picked towns with a population of fewer than 25,000. Then, they had readers vote for those towns.
So, which Pennsylvania small town was ranked the best in America? Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania. USA Today raves that this spot is “situated along the meandering Youghiogheny River and draws adventurers of all ages with its rugged charm and variety of natural wonders. Famous for Ohiopyle State Park, this area invites outdoor enthusiasts to experience many diverse activities, including first-rate white-water rafting, rock climbing, wildlife spotting, and incredible waterfall hikes.” Several other Pennsylvania towns made the list, too, including Wellsboro at No. 2; Sewickley at No. 5; and Gettysburg at No. 10. I think it’s fantastic to see so many Pennsylvania small towns get national acclaim from USA Today. We shouldn’t keep the Keystone State’s beautiful towns secret. One Pennsylvania beach was recently given the honor of being named one of the best by Reader’s Digest, too.
