Eagles Hire Kellen Moore To Be Their Next Offensive Coordinator
The Eagles have found both of their new coordinators. First, it was Vic Fangio, who took the Defensive Coordinator job swiftly after parting ways with the Dolphins. And now, they have a new Offensive Coordinator as well. The Eagles have hired former Cowboys and Chargers OC Kellen Moore, per Ian Rapoport.
The Cowboys were top 10 in points scored in 3 of the 4 seasons with Moore as OC. The one year they were not, Dak Prescott played only 5 games. Even in the final year, where Dak again missed time, their offense finished 4th in points. Many will knock him for how many interceptions Dak threw in that final season. But the year before the Cowboys had the 7th fewest interceptions thrown. And this past season with the Chargers the 2nd fewest.
His one and only year with the Chargers did not go so well though. Justin Herbert regressed, and the team finished 21st in points. But in fairness to Moore, the Chargers’ issues went far beyond just him. Brandon Staley was a disaster as the head coach, getting fired mid-season. That said, some people are comparing the Eagles bringing Nick Sirianni back to the Chargers bringing Staley back last season, so Moore could be walking into a similar situation.
Nick Sirianni at least claimed that the new OC will be bringing in their own system. The Eagles will mesh the things they do well into it, but Sirianni will have less control of the offense than he did in past seasons. So assuming Nick was telling the truth, Kellen Moore will run his offense, and not just call plays out of Sirianni’s playbook. And even if you don’t like everything he did with the Cowboys, you can’t deny those offenses put up big numbers under him. We will find out if it can work With Jalen Hurts and the Eagles too.
