Danny Briere Speaks To The Media About Carter Hart Situation
Yesterday, we got a bit of a shock when news broke that Carter Hart would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. Rumors swirled that it was in connection to the 2018 Team Canada scandal. But until this morning, we did not have confirmation about that. Then The Globe and Mail broke the story that 5 members of that Canadian Junior team are facing charges of sexual assault. And from there, people were connecting the dots. Especially when other members of that 2018 team took similar leaves of absence. Flyers GM Danny Briere addressed the media today but unfortunately could not say very much.
“We are aware of this morning’s press reports. It is a very serious matter. We will respond appropriately when the outcomes of the investigation are made public. The NHL has been very clear that teams should refer all investigation-related questions to them. In the meantime, members of the organization, including players, will not be commenting any further. That is all we can say at the moment, unfortunately.”
And you can’t even blame him for the non-comment. From what it seems, it is literally out of his hands. It is an ongoing legal matter they are barred from commenting on. The NHL told them to not say anything, so they can’t. If we want any information from the team, we will have to wait until the legal situation is settled. And based on how long it took just for these charges to come out, that could be a while. In the meantime, we may as well assume Carter Hart will not be returning to the team. At least not anytime soon, if ever.
Briere has not had the easiest of first seasons as the Flyers GM. First, the Cutter Gauthier drama unfolded, which he handled as well as you can. And now this.
