Eric Allen One Step Closer To Being Inducted Into The Hall Of Fame
A month ago, we learned that Eric Allen was finally a semi-finalist to get into the Hall of Fame. Now he is one step closer. They have cut it down to 15 Finalists, and Eric Allen is among those 15 players.
The field will be cut down to 10 early next year. After that, the 5 players being inducted into the Hall of Fame will be announced on February 8th in Vegas during the lead-up to the Super Bowl.
This is somehow Eric Allen’s first time being a finalist, or even a semi-finalist, to get into the Hall of Fame. But there is optimism it could be the only time he needs. Among the other finalists are Jared Allen, Rodney Harrison, Willie Anderson, Philly native Jahari Evans, Dwight Freeney, Antonio Gates, Devin Hester, Torry Holt, Andre Johnson, Fred Taylor, Reggie Wayne, Julius Peppers, Patrick Willis, and Darren Woodson.
Allen made 6 Pro Bowls in his 14-year career. He was also a First Team All-Pro once, and a Second Team All-Pro twice. His 54 interceptions rank 21st in NFL history. That is more than Deion Sanders, Ronder Barber, and Champ Bailey, who are all already in the Hall of Fame. His 8 pick sixes rank 8th in NFL History.
Eric Allen joined the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2011 but is long overdue to join the actual one. For too long, he has been snubbed from his rightful place in the Hall of Fame. But it looks like he may finally get the honor he deserves. If not this year, he at least has the momentum to get it soon. Allen would become the 26th former Eagle to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
