4 Things To Know For The Phillies vs Brewers Series
4 Things To Know For The Phillies vs Brewers Series.
Aaron Nola Needs To Avoid Mistake Pitches
Aaron Nola gets the start for the Phillies to kick off the series. Nola is coming off a start in which he allowed three homeruns to the Marlins. He is one of those guys who has great stuff, with that being said, the homer has become quite the problem. Nola has given up 21 long balls this year, something that needs to stop. He has a 1.11 WHIP, so if he can keep the ball in the yard, his numbers would look much better. A 4.39 ERA is fine, but with him it could be and probably should be a lot better. Nola is coming off a lengthy rest which should be beneficial. Bottom line is Nola needs to stay away from mistakes out over the plate and keep hitters from diving by coming inside for a look every once in a while. He needs to be better in the latter part of the season!
Kyle Schwarber Getting Hot
Kyle Schwarber is coming off of a great series in which he went deep three times against the Padres over the weekend. There is a need to see more of this from him because his on base percentage is .314. The main reason for his batting leadoff is to simply get more at bats for the long ball. This past series is a major reason why Rob Thomson likes him in that role. Also, his threat to opposing pitchers is menacing at the top of the order. Phillies need him to continue to tear it up this series vs. the Brewers.
Keep Expectations For Harper at First Reasonable
Bryce Harper finally broke his home run drought over the weekend. More importantly, it looks as though he is primed to play 1st base for the first time. Adequate is the word I am using for him at first. Why? He is new to the position, you cannot expect perfection from a guy who doesn’t normally play the position. Make the routine plays and move on, anything more is a bonus. This also will help in the D.H. role. Schwarber will be able to get off his feet and be in the role he was more or less brought here to do. The defense gets automatically better, with a possible outfield of Rojas, Marsh and Castellanos.
Don’t Pass Up Chance To Beat Up on Team You Could Be Competing For Wild Card Spot With
Keep beating the teams that can hurt you in the long run. The Brewers are in 1st place in the NL Central but could be that wildcard team. Phillies just put away the Padres and could put the Brewers in their rear view mirror with a series win here in Philly. Plug along, that is what it is about.
