Nick Castellanos Quickly Becoming a Philly Favorite
Nick Castellanos has been on a bit of a roller coaster since he arrived in Philly. When he signed here, people instantly loved him. Especially after his “I don’t have a College degree, I hit baseballs,” comment. But then his first actual season went less than ideal. Castellanos hit just .263 with 13 HRs last season. Those struggles continued into the playoffs. Outside of a few acrobatic catches in the outfield, he did not contribute much to the World Series run.
So coming into this season, all eyes were on him. Suddenly he was not the popular new edition, but the struggling star with a target on his back. Turns out he plays better when under that type of pressure. Because as bad as last season was, he is just as good this year. Nick already has matched his HR total from last season. His batting average has been up over .300 all season. He is playing well in the outfield. And going into the All-Star Break, it would be hard to pick anyone else as the team MVP.
Suddenly fans love him. And that love only grows whenever he speaks. At The All-Star Game, one reporter asked him who his favorite Super Hero is. To which he gave a very amusing answer.
"Well first off he's a dog ... and he can talk."

I asked Nick Castellanos his reasoning behind Scooby Doo being his favorite superhero, which led to this insightful answer. https://t.co/MCtm6XmO98 pic.twitter.com/leRDlZkUKM

Nick Castellanos is disproving the myth that Phillies fans are hard to please. The truth is we are the easiest fans to please/pander to in the league. It’s how he could so quickly go from a guy fans were starting to get a bit sick of after one year, to maybe the most popular guy on the team right now. Just play well, and show a bit of personality, and you will have Philly fans in the palm of your hands.
Nick Castellanos has carried a struggling Phillies lineup through the season so far. Hopefully, the rest of the guys soon pick it up soon. But Nick is doing his job. He is finally leaving up to that hitting baseballs claim from his introductory press conference. It has him back in tonight’s All-Star Game alongside teammate Craig Kimbrel. And it has turned him into a favorite athlete among Philly fans.
