The Flyers first preseason game took place tonight as the orange and black hosted the Boston Bruins. The first period Felix Sandstrom was between the pipes stopping the Bruins 16 shots on goal. The Flyers and Bruins were scoreless after one period of play.
Early in the second Noah Cates scored the Flyers’ first goal of preseason action. Under halfway through the 2nd period the Flyers switched goalies as Sandstrom comes out after 17 saves and Troy Grosenick comes in. Flyers on top 1-0 after 40 minutes.
With nearly 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd Boston ties the game 1-1. Jackson Cates gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Both of the Cates brothers scored tonight’s goals as the Flyers win after 60 minutes.
After the game Jackson Cates told me what it was like playing with his brother (Noah Cates) tonight. Jackson replied, “it was a lot of fun, it’s cool to play at the pro level together now, and obviously we’ve been playing since we were two years old together and I hope we can keep translating to the pro level.”
Morgan Frost who is notably one of the players that stood out in the Flyers organization after he was drafted 27th overall in the 2017 draft played a fantastic game tonight. I asked Morgan if there were any key moments that stood out to him tonight. “I don’t know if there was one exact moment. It was just nice to be back in the building (Wells Fargo), and playing with some of the guys. Being on the line with Tippy (Owen Tippett) was nice; I like playing with him. It was nice to get out there and play the game.
The Flyers go to Buffalo to take on the Sabres on Tuesday and come back to broad to host the Capitals on Wednesday.
