Eagles Select DeVonta Smith
The Eagles have officially selected Alabama WR DeVonta Smith with the 10th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after trading up! Smith was the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner following a Senior Season in which he tallied 117 receptions for 1856 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide. The selection of Smith marks the 3rd straight year the Eagles have selected a pass catcher in the top 2 rounds of the draft (Reagor ’20, Arcega-Whiteside ’19, Goedert ’18).
The speedy wide receiver did have some pre-draft concerns about his weight – he checks in at only around 6’0, 170 lbs – but Smith showed off great hands and route running at Alabama and should be an exciting option for new Head Coach Nick Sirianni to insert into his offense. Those skills are part of the reason why Smith has drawn comps to Marvin Harrison from scouts and analysts. This selection also means that Jalen Hurts may have gotten a #1 option as he tries to prove himself as a franchise QB in Philly. The Eagles next selection will come at #37 overall.
