Which Phillie has the best odds to lead the league hits?
For the Phillies to have success this season, they’ll need their core of Bryce Harper, J.T.Realmuto and Rhys Hoskins to shine. However, the Phillies could use an added punch from other members of the starting lineup if they are to find themselves in the postseason.
Trivia question time: Which Phillie is ranked seventh in MLB in hits over the last four seasons?
Answer: Jean Segura (699)
Seeing “Mean Jean” that high on the list might be mildly surprising but the Phillies’ infielder did lead the National League in hits (203) back in 2016 during his one season with the Diamondbacks. Last season, Segura’s 161 hits were second only to Cesar Hernandez (171) despite playing in 17 less games.
Segura has the pedigree to be among the league leaders in hits if he can remain healthy for the 60-game season. From a sports betting perspective, names like Houston’s Jose Altuve and Colorado’s Nolan Arenado are among the many favorites to be the hit kings for 2020. Without listing all the numbers, Altuve and Arenado are listed with odds of 12-1 to 14-1 on most sportsbooks.
However, Segura isn’t too far behind them with odds of 22-1 on DraftKings and FOX Bet ($100 wager will pay $2,200) and 27-1 on FanDuel ($100 wager will pay $2,700). The 30-year-old is the only Phillie listed with odds for most hits on the major sportsbooks.
He appears to be all business entering this season by the looks of his Instagram post from almost a month ago. If Segura’s training is on point – then hopefully his hitting isn’t too far behind – it could be worthwhile to keep an eye on his production over the next couple of months.
