Phillies sign top draft pick Mick Abel
The Phillies have signed their top draft pick, right-handed pitcher Mick Abel.
The Phils selected Abel with the 15th overall pick in the draft earlier this month.
Abel received a signing bonus of $4.075 million, according to a source. The slot value for the 15th pick was $3.89 million.
Abel is 6-5 and 198 pounds. He comes out of Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon.
Three rival scouts evaluated Abel for us in this story.
The Phillies agreed to terms last week with their fourth- and fifth-round picks, pitcher Carson Ragsdale and outfielder Baron Radcliff. Third-round shortstop Casey Martin is their only unsigned draft pick. The deadline for draft picks to sign is Aug. 1.
