Phillies agree to terms with draft picks Carson Ragsdale and Baron Radcliff
The Phillies have agreed to terms with two of their four 2020 draft picks: fourth-round right-hander Carson Ragsdale and fifth-round outfielder Baron Radcliff.
Both were college players. Ragsdale played at South Florida and Radcliff at Georgia Tech. The Phillies took chances on both.
Ragsdale (6-8/225) had just recently been moved to the rotation after two mediocre seasons as a reliever. In four starts this season before the coronavirus shutdown, Ragsdale had a 2.84 ERA with 37 strikeouts and seven walks in 19 innings. In the previous two seasons, he walked 21 in 31⅓ innings so there was some real progress in 2020.
Radcliff had some of the best raw power in the 2020 draft but will have to make more contact. He hit just .236 in college but put on some power displays that quickly caught the eye of Bryce Harper.

Radcliff went deep 12 times last season. And he’s cut down on the swing-and-miss throughout his three-year college career. He struck out 44 times in 89 at-bats as a freshman but cut that rate by about 15 percent in 2019.
The Phillies’ first two picks, first-round prep right-hander Mick Abel and third-round college shortstop Casey Martin, are unsigned. The deadline for 2020 draft picks to sign is Aug. 1.
The Phillies also announced two more signings of undrafted free agents: right-handers Blake Brown out of UNC Asheville and Buddy Hayward from Harvard.
In all, the Phils have signed 10 non-drafted free agents, all pitchers:
RHP Chase Antle (Coastal Carolina)
RHP Blake Brown (UNC Asheville)
LHP Jordan Fowler (Central Missouri)
RHP Buddy Hayward (Harvard)
RHP Jonathan Hughes (Georgia Tech)
RHP Sam Jacobsak (Northeastern)
LHP Jake McKenna (Ocean City HS – NJ)
RHP Noah Skirrow (Liberty)
RHP Billy Sullivan (Delaware)
LHP JP Woodward (Lafayette)
