Can we talk about how nasty this pitch was from Phillies’ Reggie McClain?

Talk about tying a hitter up.
Check out this pitch from Phillies right-hander Reggie McClain Monday afternoon against Yankees infielder Gio Urshela. It had two-seam movement but looked more like a changeup.

Urshela, a .314 hitter last season, couldn’t figure out whether to take or swing and the result found him on the ground.
McClain, battling for a spot in the Phillies’ bullpen, has an interesting backstory. He was driving for Uber in Arizona as he awaited spring training last year, his pro career dangling by a thread. He had a breakout 2019 season in the Mariners’ system, advancing all the way from High A to the majors. His fastball picked up extra life as he transitioned from starter to reliever, with his four-seamer and sinker averaging 94 and maxing out at 97 mph.
The Phillies claimed the 27-year-old McClain off waivers from Seattle on Jan. 31 and added him to the 40-man roster.
In six innings this spring, he’s allowed three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
