Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- Tyrese Maxey To The Rescue
In his Opening Diatribe this morning, Anthony Gargano reacted to Tyrese Maxey coming to the Sixers rescue last night…
“One of the things that I want to start with, is last night. What a weird wild, strange, odd, bizarre game it was. Joel was on the floor all night. He was like a mop. The ejection of James Harden was absolutely ridiculous. Just a bizarre night of basketball. What looked to be a Sixers blowout, almost went sideways. but in the end, it was all about Tyrese Maxey.
Yes, Tyrese Maxey. Who is one of those guys who is universally beloved by everyone. Very few people on the planet Earth is above the hate. But Tyrese Maxey is. He is universally beloved by everyone in Philadelphia. Guess what, he deserves. Last night he single-handedly saved the Sixers. He won that game single-handedly. Not just by his 25 points. Harden went out, and Maxey took over. He dominated the basketball as this combo whirling dervish of a guard. Where the offense ran through him. He called his own number, he was just terrific.
The Sixers were down 92-87. With 5 minutes to go. Look at all the plays. Maxey set up Joel for the 16-footer. Then Maxey makes a floater. But then Bridges comes back, O’-Neal had the tip. it was 96-91. 2:15 to go to the game. I am thinking they are going to blow this game. Just imagine how bad our day was going to be. You don’t mind a gentleman’s sweep, but this was a game they had.
It didn’t matter. Maxey to the rescue. H buries a triple. It’s 96-94. He grabs a steal, and makes the layup. It’s now tied. After a timeout, 44 seconds to go, buries a stepback triple. Maxey Splash. 99-96…”
