Here’s How LeSean McCoy And Asante Samuel Knew Nnamdi Asomugha Wasnt Going To Be A Bust With The Eagles
Lets take you back to the year 2011! The “Dream Team” Eagles just made possibly the biggest splash in free agency by signing cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to a BIG contract. The Eagles snuck in and stole Nnamdi from the Cowboys and the Jets and it was the definition of a win now move. The city was excited! The Phillies traded for Hunter Pence on the same day, and the Eagles were loading up for the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy. Ok, now just sit there and dont move…..because it all went down hill from there.
The Phillies failed to win the World Series that year and it ended up being the last time the team has appeared in the Post Season. The Eagles went 8-8 that season, and then followed it up with a 4-12 season which got Andy Reid fired. The team also cut bait with Nnamdi Asomugha who was a HUGE disaster. His name has become synonymous with eating alone in your car. But what about his former teammates? Were they surprised by Nnamdi’s disappointing tenure?
Certainly not former Eagles corner Asante Samuel. He, along with former running back LeSean McCoy, joined the “I Am Athlete” podcast and told the story of Nnamdi’s first practice. McCoy dived into the moment he realized Nnamdi was “fools gold.”
Anytime your $60 million dollar corner is getting cooked by the tight end its a bad day. Lets just hope that in 10 years Darius Slay and Miles Sanders arent talking on some podcast about the awful AJ Brown tenure.
