6 Phillies Staples Who Might Not Be Here After 2025
There is very much a one-last ride feel to this Phillies season. This core has been together for 3 seasons, For the most part, it has been this same group. They swapped in Trea Turner for Rhys Hoskins, and added some pieces on the margins, but the 2022 team that went to the World Series looks very similar to the team who will take the field on Opening Day.
They made it to a World Series, an NLCs, won the NL East, and made the playoffs in all 3 seasons. But they have not won a World Series, and it could be the last chance for this group before things start to change.
Obviously some faces are not going anywhere. Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola are all locked up long terms. As is Cristopher Sanchez. Bryson Stott has some improvements to make at the plate, but with his glove, and being under team control for several more years, it is hard to see him going anywhere.
But for some other names, 2025 could be their last ride in Red Pinstripes. Either because they are about to be free agents, could be the subject of trade talks, or could just be moved out to make way for someone else.
Here Are 6 Phillies Mainstays Who Could Be Going Into Their Final Season in Philly
Kyle Schwarber
This is Schwarbers final year in the 4-year deal he signed back in 2022. He has been everything they expected and more. Not just bringing the power, but being a Clubhouse leader.
I still think they do everything in their power to bring him back on a new deal. But that DH role is earmarked for Bryce Harper at some point. Harper has talked about doing whatever he can to extend his career, and a move to DH will be part of that at some point.
It is possible they can’t work something out with Schwarber, and they lose the hitter who leads them in HRs, Runs, and RBIs since coming to Philly. But of all the people on this list, I think he is actually the most likely to come back.

Nick Castellanos
Nick is not a pending free agent. But he has been the subject of trade talks every off-season he has been here, and will only have 1-year left on his deal after this season. That final year will be far easier to move than it has been in past off-seasons.
There has been a lot of talk of Bryce Harper being willing to move back to the Outfield if it means they can add a great 1st Baseman. Is that foreshadowing a move after this year? They will have a lot of money coming off the books, and Vlad Guerrero Jr. will be the prize of free agency.
That might seem like a pipedream, but Harper has put it out there he is willing to move. But if he moves back to RF, where does Castellanos go? Maybe to left field, but also maybe to another city.
JT Realmuto
When the Phillies traded for JT Realmuto he was far and away the Best Catcher In Baseball. He is not that anymore. At 34, with a career of wear and tear on his knees, he is a shell of his former self. Still good behind the plate, but not so much at the plate.
He, like Schwarber, is a pending free agent. But it is harder to see value in extending him than there is in extending Schwarber. The only thing in his favor is how little depth the Phillies have at Catcher in their system. But unless it is for a bargain, giving a 34-year-old Catcher with a deteriorating skillset is a hard sell.
Ranger Suarez
I am a big fan of Ranger Suarez. The guy is tough as nails, has been fantastic in the post-season, and has at times flashed Cy Young-level talent.
But he can never finish a full season and is a pending free agent. The Phillies have big money invested in Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, have Cristopher Sanchez locked up long term, just added Jesus Luzardo who has another year under tea control, and have Andrew Painter waiting in the wings.
Ranger is the odd man out here. The writing is on the wall for a departure, and of all the names here, though it pains me to say it, he is the least likely to still be wearing pinstripes in 2025, unless those Pinstripes are of the Yankees or Cubs variety.

Alec Bohm
Bohm found himself in the doghouse after last season. He was benched in the playoffs and shopped in the off-season. The Phillies did not find a trade that worked, but that does not mean his time here is not still at risk. 2026 will be the final arbitration year for Bohm. After that he is a free agent.
The Phillies top prospect is Aidan Miller. He will not be up this year, but a great year down in AA could move his timetable up to a 2026 debut. They are calling him a Shortstop, but if he plays SS, where does Trea go? Does Trea move to 3rd? If Bohm doesn’t fix the maturity issues that got him benched, and if he has a 4th straight disappointing post-season, it could be Bohm who is the odd man out in the Phillies infield.
Brandon Marsh
The Phillies claim to be giving Brandon Marsh a chance to play every day. If they live up to that promise, it will mean he gets the chance to either prove he can hit lefties, or that he can’t.
If he can, he has a future here. He hits righties really well, and has a solid glove. If he can’t, that future is much murkier. Justin Crawford will eventually take over Center Field. Marsh could move back to left, but if he wants a long-term future here, he needs to be more than a platoon player.
