Jalen Hurts Clears Concussion Protocol, Good To Go
Almost 3 weeks ago now, Jalen Hurts was knocked out of the Commanders’ game with a concussion. The Eagles went on to lose that game. He then missed the following week, and the Eagles rested all of their starters in week 18. Meaning it has been a while since we saw him play.
But after practicing on Wednesday and Friday, Nick Sirianni shared the news that Jalen Hurts had cleared the concussion protocol, and can play on Sunday.
This comes as no surprise to anyone who paid attention and knew how concussion protocol works. You cannot clear the protocol without practicing. You have to practice, go home, get rest, and then come back the next day and show no symptoms. Only then can you be cleared from the protocol.
Jalen Hurts Couldn’t Clear Protocol Until He Practiced
They gave the starters off last week and Hurts never practiced. The team did not practice on Monday or Tuesday, again making it impossible to clear until late this week.
It was never a real problem, but that did not stop folks in the National media from trying to make it one (looking at you Jeff Saturday, and The Get Up Crew). So while there was never any real doubt he would play, we can now know for sure. Hurts will suit up on Sunday to play the Packers.
Hurts has garnered praise from his teammates and his coach for how he looked in the two practices. According to them, there was no rust. Even with extended time off, he still looked sharp. We won’t know for sure if there is any rust until he gets on the field and plays in a real game though.
But Jalen Hurts is good to go. He likely could have cleared it last week, but he was not playing so there was no reason to push him through the protocol.
