Will Jalen Hurts Be Rusty? Matt Ryan Doesn’t Think So
Jalen Hurts has not played a game since December 22nd. Even then it was only for a few snaps before being knocked out of the game with a concussion. He missed the next week, and then the Eagles rested all of their starters for the final game of the season. So when he takes the field Sunday he will have thrown only 4 passes in a game over the last 30 days.
That has left many people wondering if he will be rusty this weekend vs the Packers. But someone with a lot of experience playing QB, former MVP Matt Ryan, joined Kincade and Salciunas this week, and he did not seem too worried about it.
Here Is What Matt Ryan Had To Say About Jalen Hurts Being Rusty
“I think rust is more prevalent when you’re a timing player when you’re a rhythm type player. I think This isn’t a knock on Hurts, I just don’t view him as kind of a rhythm and timing passer. He throws a lot of isolation routes on the outside. I think they do that very well. He’s got guys that are big and physical in AJ Brown, and then speed in DeVonta Smith. So I just don’t think I don’t view it as affecting him as much.“

Teammates Says Jalen Hurts Looks Sharp In First Practice
Jalen Hurts officially practiced for the first time since the concussion on Wednesday. Was there any rust? His teammate doesn’t think so.
Lane Johnson
“He looked really sharp. It was his first time back full-speed and we had a crisp practice. He’s been dialed in. He’s been limited with what he can do physically, obviously, but mentally he’s sharp and on top of it.”
Jordan Mailata
“He looked really sharp, brought a lot of energy. He was out there in short sleeves. I’ve been in his position before with a concussion and when you miss time, you try and find ways to get back as fast as you can but I think he did a great job of dealing with that and coming back as sharp as he did today and I thought he had a phenomenal practice.”
Obviously practice is not the same as a real game. It is a lot different when you have a 300-pound DT barrelling towards you. But we might be overstating the impact of rust.
This is not him coming off an offseason where he has barely thrown a real pass. It was a few weeks off. He is not the 1st QB to miss a couple of weeks. His teammates say he looked sharp, and Matt Ryan didn’t seem to think it would be a factor. All signs point to Hurts being just fine when he takes the field vs the Packers this Sunday.
Also even if he does need to shake off the rust, the Eagles have more than enough experience this season bouncing back from bad 1st quarters. If any team is capable of handling that, it is the Eagles.
