Aaron Nola Stats Vs This Mets Lineup- Game 3 Preview
The Phillies heading into game 3 with the series tied 1-1. It certainly feels like whoever wins this game, will win the series. For this pivotal game, the Phillies will turn to Aaron Nola to face down the Mets lineup.
To this point, the Phillies starters have shut the Mets lineup down. Zack Wheeler pitched 7 scoreless innings, and the next day Cristopher Sanchez gave up 2 runs across 5 innings. It has been the bullpen the Mets got to. The good news is that Aaron Nola, even on days when he lacks his best stuff, often goes deep into games. No one has pitched more innings than Nola since 2016.

But how has he fared against the Mets? He has faced them 28 times in his career and has a 3.46 ERA across 164 innings with 205 strikeouts. He has faced them twice this year. The first time as well as it can go. He threw a complete game shutout, allowed only 4 base runners, and struck out 8 batters. More recently though, he gave up 6 runs in 4.1 innings.
It is noteworthy though that the complete game shutout came in NY, where game 3 will be played. It is also notable that Nola has a 1.54 in the NLDS, and in 14 starts at Citi Field, he has an ERa of 3.28.
But how he he done vs these individual Mets hitters? Let’s look at his career stats vs each of them.

So for the most part, he has handled these players. But two players in particular, Alonso and Marte, have done very well against him in a decent sample size. Those guys, in particular Alonso, will be the matchups to watch.
We know Nola has an issue with the long ball. He gave up the 5th most HRs this season (30) and the 7th most last season (32). Dont be surprised if Alonso takes him deep for the 6th time in his career. What will be important is keeping the bases clear. A solo shot doesn’t kill you, a 3-run shot can.
He has done very well against Lindor and Nimmo, and the sample size for Vientos is too small to judge. How he does vs those 3 players could tell the story of how he does overall. Keep them off the bases, you should be okay even if Alonso connects with 1.
