Eagles Trade For Former Round 1 Pick Kenny Pickett In Pick Swap
The Eagles seem to be collecting former 1st round picks this offseason. First, they signed the 2nd overall pick from 2018, Saquon Barkley. Then, they drafted the 5th overall pick from 2019, Devin White. Today, they hit the trifecta. Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles acquired Kenny Pickett from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a pick swap. The Steelers selected him with the 20th overall pick in 2022.
The Eagles get Kenny Pickett and Pick 120 in this year’s draft, which is a 4th-round pick. The Steelers get pick 98 (3rd round) and two 2025 7th round picks. So essentially the Eagles moved down 22 spots in the draft to acquire a QB selected in the 1st round just 2 years ago.
Kenny Pickett Hasnt Been Great For Steelers
Pickett’s time in Pittsburgh didn’t go great. In 25 games he 4,474 yards and 13 TDS. Not the type of production you expect from a 1st round pick. It is why the Steelers moved on by acquiring Russell Wilson this off-season. But he is not coming here to start, he is coming here to backup Jalen Hurts. Compared to the other backups around the league, Pickett might be one of the best.
The price was low, and there is an upside there. He can move a bit and has enough talent the Steelers spent a 1st on him. At the least, he is better than Marcus Mariota, who served as their backup last year. Despite some struggles, we saw Pickett be capable of winning games in the NFL.
Kenny Pickett has two more years on his rookie deal. His cap hit for 2024 is $1.9 million. In 2025, it will be $2.6 million. The move gives them at the very least a solid option at backup for the next two years, without having to invest much cap space into the position.
