Eagles Sign Devin White to 1-Year Deal, But He Wont Fix Their LB Problems
The Eagles’ off-season has been nothing short of fantastic. But until now, one thing was missing. They extended valuable players like Landon Dickerson and Jake Elliott. Then they added major firepower to their offense with Saquon Barkley. On top of improving their defense with Bryce Huff and CJ Gardner Johnson. but the elephant in the room was the lack of a LB. That changed tonight, with Howie signing Devin White to a 1-year deal.

Devin White May Not Be As Good As You Think
People expecting Devin White to come in and be the answer at LB may be disappointed though. It has been a bit of a struggle for the 5th-year LB the past few years. Especially against the run. Stop me if you heard this about an Eagles LB before, but he tends to miss tackles. White had 9 missed tackles last season. Compared to just 53 successful tackles. You can see his lack of effort on some tackles here.
He is okay in pass coverage and can be dangerous as a blitzer. But the name may be more exciting than the player.
White was the 5th overall pick by the Bucs back in 2019. He didn’t quite live up to that hype. But maybe a change of scenery is what he needs. Maybe Vic Fangio can get something out of him we haven’t seen yet. It is only a 1-year deal. So it is not like it is a high-risk move.
That said, people may just be getting excited because it is a big-name Linebacker. They are not getting some sure thing that will fix everything wrong with the position last year. There is a reason all he could get is a 1-year deal.
The move is another band-aid on a larger problem. There is still plenty of offseason left. And with all the other LBs getting scooped up, maybe this was the best move. But they need more at LB than just Devin White.
