March Madness 2024 Bracket Kickoff: Selection Sunday Details
It’s the best time of year for any college hoops fan: March Madness. This week, the college teams are duking it out in their conferences, and then, it’s onto the big show. March Madness officially starts with Selection Sunday, which is this Sunday, March 17. Yes, that’s on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s totally appropriate to watch the Selection Sunday fun while downing some green beer, by the way.
What is Selection Sunday?
Okay, if you’re reading this, you probably know what Selection Sunday is all about. But, just in case, Selection Sunday is when the field of 68 teams is announced for the NCAA basketball tournament. This is both for the men’s and women’s tournaments. The NCAA Selection Committees will guarantee a spot for all the conference champions and then fill in to the remaining schools. The teams will then be grouped into four regions and given a seed 1 to 16. Most importantly for those who love brackets, the bracket pools officially open up after the NCAA Selection Committees announce these 68 teams. So, that’s when all of the real fun begins. The No. 1 seeds are pretty much set, though, as it will be difficult for anyone to top the records of Purdue, Houston and Connecticut. But, a lot more is at play, so it will be interesting to see these 68 teams and who makes it to the Final Four.
As for the games, the first location for March Madness this year is Phoenix, Arizona, for the men. It’s Cleveland, Ohio, for the women.
