Eagles Will Play in Brazil To Open 2024 Season, But Lose a Home Game
Next season the NFL will play their first ever game in South America. And now we know it will feature the Eagles. Today the NFL announced the Eagles are the home team for next season’s game in Brazil. They will take on a to-be-determined opponent at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil on September 6th. Which just happens to be a Friday night.
…
The Eagles were supposed to have 9 home games this season. Since moving to a 17-game regular season, teams now rotate between having 8 and 9 home games. Last year they had 8. This season was supposed to make up for it. But now they technically lose that advantage. They will only play 8 games in Philly next year.
The trade-off is they get to make history and play the first-ever game in Brazil, or South America as a whole. Expanding their reach into other countries has been a major goal of the NFL for years now. They played their first game in London in 2007. In 2015 they started playing multiple games a season overseas. From there they expanded into Mexico, and last year they played their first game in Germany. And now the next frontier is South America.
We don’t yet know who they will play. But we know it will be one of 9 teams they currently have home games scheduled against. Cowboys, Giants, Commanders, Packers, Falcons, Panthers, Browns, Jaguars, and Steelers. The Jaguars are already playing in London next year. Making it unlikely they will also play in Brazil.
The Eagles haven’t played outside of the United States since they went to London to play the Jaguars in 2018. A game they won 24-18. Now they get their second international game and a trip to Brazil. Is it worth losing a home game for though? At the very least it will be a great road trip for any fans who can make their way out to Brazil.
